Diet and exercise reduces type-2 diabetes risk

A study funded by the National Institutes of Health, found that there is a reduced risk for developing type 2-diabetes if you restrict calories and exercise to lose weight. The researchers from Saint Louis University found that both exercise and calorie restriction proved beneficial to lowering the risk for developing diabetes.

The researchers questioned whether diet or exercise was the most beneficial in the prevention of diabetes. They originally thought that exercise would provide the most benefits, but they discovered that both were helpful in reducing the risk for developing diabetes. The researchers studied 28 people ranging in age from 50 to 60 and had a body mass index (BMI) range between 23 and 30. The BMI range is considered toward the high end of normal weight to overweight. The participants were not obese. The study participants did not have any symptoms or blood chemistry that would put them at risk for diabetes. Read More
